Setup#

To follow this tutorial, you will need:

  1. An SSH client: Most Linux and macOS systems come with SSH pre-installed. Windows 10 and later include OpenSSH by default. To check if SSH is installed, open a terminal and type:

    ssh -V

  2. Access to a remote server: You’ll need credentials (username and hostname/IP address) for a server you can connect to. This might be:

    • A computing cluster at your institution

    • A cloud server

    • A virtual machine

  3. A text editor: For editing the SSH configuration file. Any plain text editor will work (vim, nano, emacs, notepad++, VS Code, etc.)

If you don’t have access to a server yet, please contact your supervisor or system administrator to obtain the necessary credentials and permissions.
